Grandma Johnson’s Oatmeal Cookies


Beat together until creamy:
2 c shortening
1 ½ c brown sugar
1 ½ c sugar

Add:
2 T vanilla
4 eggs
Beat again.

Mix together in separate bowl:
3 c flour
2 t salt

Also in separate cup mix:
2 T hot water
2 t baking soda
Stir until soda is dissolved.

Add ½ flour to cream mixture, then ½ soda waterMix.
Add other ½ flour and soda water. Mix.

Add 4 c quick oats.  Mix.

Add chocolate chips or nuts or raisins if desired.

Drop by round teaspoon on greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes.  
Enjoy!

*This makes a large batch of cookies.  The dough freezes well if you don’t use it all, or you can ½ the recipe too!
